Thats one thing people keep forgetting, it is so easy to leave a trail a mile long on the net, whether it is a blog, a comment or whatever, its amazing what you can discover about people on the net.

Thanks for the comment Willow. It's often said you either make "full disclosure" if you have an online presence, or go for complete anonymity, as you have. You could still opt to create a blog where you post purely about professional matters, and keep your personal blog completely separate, and in the dark!

And Anthony you're right – there's some pretty dope (in all definitions & interpretations of the word!) MySpace pages about, not to mention all those other social networking gizmos, ICQ, forum discussion threads, etc etc, etc, that many people have forgotten about, floating around that may come turn up in an employer's Google search one day!

If a potential employer were to "google" an applicant's name, can you imagine the impression they would get from most MySpace pages? I don't think it's just the blog, but ANY online activity that your name is attached to.

I've made it a point to use pseudonyms on my blogs, and I treasure the anonymity :-) While it's true I might be missing out on impressing a potential employer with my snarky / witty / insightful blog posts [yeah, right!], I figure I can always submit sanitized examples, or establish a focussed blog/site for this purpose, rather than having them wade through my accounts of not being able to hold my liquor last New Year's or something, LoL!

I dropped by via IntroduceMyBlog, btw.
